Introduction To Guix

This course is meant for both complete beginners who have never used Guix, and those who know some basics but are looking to get a deeper understanding and learn more. If you have never used Guix before, you will learn about installing Guix, how to manage your system, and get started on more intermediate topics like creating your own packages and understanding how Guix works. For those of you that have some experience with Guix, you'll solidify the basics, gain a good grasp of important concepts in Guix, and have a foundation for more advanced topics like writing services and more complex configurations.

Topics

1. Guix Basics: key features, understanding how Guix works, basic installation and tour of Guix
2. How to use Guix: declarative system configuration, managing packages for your user and system
3. Packages: understanding and creating packages, tutorial of using an importer and fixing common errors
4. Guix Home: learn to use Guix Home for a declarative user configuration of dotfiles and more
5. Services: understand and write your own system and user home services

Details

Length: 6-7 hours total, over 1-2 days

Class size: capped at 10, usually we aim for 5-6

Format: live over video, with slides and code made available, live exercises and Q&A

Price: 240 EUR (approximately 280 USD) or equivalent billed in your local currency

Prerequisites: ability to run a virtual machine (instructions will be provided) or have Guix available, and really not much else beyond a willingness to learn!
